Worth the Wait

After two years of planning and fundraising, the Trafford Elementary School community of Penn-Trafford School District was delighted to see the completion of the school’s new playground.

After numerous fundraisers, grants, and donations, the school’s PTO and teachers achieved their goal of $155,000 which included the removal of the old equipment and the purchase and installation of the new playground. Teachers Mrs. Witek, Ms. Zombek, and Mr. Bujdos spearheaded the fundraising efforts along with former PTO president Melissa Daykon and former principal Dan DiNapoli.  Contributions from PTARC, Head Start, and PTCEF also helped make this all possible.

Throughout the first few months of the current school year, students watched as the new equipment was delivered, the ground was prepared, and the installation process took place.  Then finally on the afternoon of November 5th, principal Dr. Amy Horvat announced that the playground was officially open, and each class was allotted time to play in and explore the new space. “For the last two years, the students, parents, teachers, and the community have put everything they have into this playground,” said Horvat. “I wanted them to enjoy it the minute it was opened. They deserved that!”
