February is Black History Month

February is ‘Black History Month’ and at Trafford and Level Green Elementary Schools, students are learning about the lives, work, and influence of Black Americans on U.S. history and culture.

In Music classes, Mrs. Thompson is teaching students how songs like “Follow the Drinking Gourd” played a role in helping slaves escape to freedom. During Art lessons, Mrs. Christoforetti’s students are learning how quilts were made to preserve slaves' memories and how they may have contained coded messages to assist slaves to make their escape.
